Zen Tung, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
My passion is conducting therapy with Asians, both first generation and second generation. As a Taiwanese-American therapist, I am well versed in the family dynamics of Asian culture. I am also experienced in dealing with parent-child conflicts between first-generation Chinese parents and their westernized second-generation teenagers and adult children. My work centers primarily on helping parents and children recognize their cultural differences in order to better understand one another and maintain healthy relationships. Sessions may be in either Mandarin and English.
When I work with couples, my primary focus is on helping them understand their different communication patterns and parenting styles. This helps each partner better understand one another. For treating interracial couples, my goal is to increase their cultural competence, explore their “couple identity,” and cope with language barriers in their marriage.
In addition to family and couples therapy, I frequently see individuals with a range of emotional issues, including depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and anger. My goal as a therapist is to help my clients increase self-awareness and love and accept themselves. Through the healing process, my clients are more able to enjoy who they are.
Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked as financial controller, mainly for multinational companies for thirty years including eight years as an expatriate in Asia (Taipei, Beijing and Singapore) and Europe (London). I am well trained, cultivated and experienced in thinking and using my analytical mind and people skills. My work and life experiences have enabled me to connect with working professionals and help them with their job and personal issues.
